UPDATE ON SCHOOL REOPENING ON 1 JUNE 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

SCHOOL REOPENING

As our very first remote summer half term draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to say what an amazing job you have all done to support your child’s wellbeing and learning. We have missed the children very much, but have created new classroom communities on zoom in order to keep in touch, as well as telephone communication with every child.

Following government guidance we are now reopening Burhill in a gradual way, welcoming nursery and reception classes first, followed by year one, and then year 6. This will continue to be reviewed to ensure that all our children remain safe.

Learning
Children who are remaining at home will carry on with the home learning packs, uploaded in the parent document library on our school website https://www.burhill.surrey.sch.uk. The children coming into school will also be working on the same home learning packs. Should you have not previously requested that a home learning pack be printed for you, but now need to have a pack printed, please email to homelearning@burhill.surrey.sch.uk

Communication
Teachers will continue to send regular year group messages via Study Bugs, to outline learning tasks and provide key messages for parents. We would still love your child to share home learning with their class teacher, but please bear with us, as all staff will be supporting children in school, therefore response time may be a little longer.

If you need any support with home learning during school hours, please use the following email addresses.

Zoom sessions and videos

Zoom sessions will continue on a weekly basis.  Please can we remind you that an adult must also attend the zoom session with their child, and all sessions will be recorded. The video library on our school website will continue to be updated to include assemblies, story sessions and some teaching videos.

Financial support
As a school, we want to continue to make sure that all our families are managing during what is likely to be a challenging time financially. We are aware that there will be some parents who have recently been made redundant or who are normally self-employed but are unable to work during the lockdown. Whilst the government support in place through the Job Retention Scheme and business grant funding schemes will help many, we know that this will not cover everyone. We are also conscious that the Self-employment Income Support Scheme is not going to be paid to individuals until June 2020. This will inevitably leave some families facing financial difficulties.

Should you find yourself in need of support, please email crisis@burhill.surrey.sch.uk. In your email, please include the name and age of your children (including those not at our school) and the best contact number to call you on. A member of staff will then be in contact to see if we can help facilitate support in the form of food parcels and vouchers through the foodbank and Walton Charities.

Our HSLW is available to offer parental advice so please email Mrs Pugh apugh@burhill.surrey.sch.uk if you would like any support.

Dates for the diary
INSET days: Friday 26th June 2020 and Monday 29th June.  We want to continue to use our INSET days in order to plan and prepare for the year ahead.

Thank you for your continued support during these challenging times,

Kind regards

Mrs Gemma Adams
