Pupil Premium

At Burhill Primary School, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child—regardless of background, need or circumstance—is entitled to the highest quality of education, strong relationships, and the opportunity to thrive. Our approach centres on the principle that children are disadvantaged only when the system fails to serve them fully, which is why we use the term underserved pupils to keep the responsibility and agency where it belongs: with us.

Our Inclusion Strategy and Pupil Premium Plan outline our whole‑school commitment to removing barriers, closing gaps, and ensuring that all pupils achieve their full potential. We act early, use high‑quality diagnostic assessment, and prioritise strong pastoral support to understand each child as an individual. Quality First Teaching is the foundation of our provision, and all staff adopt a “PPe first” mindset—considering the needs of underserved pupils in every stage of planning, teaching, feedback and provision.

We recognise that academic progress, attendance, wellbeing and social–emotional development are deeply interconnected. Through evidence‑based interventions, targeted support and a broad, enriching curriculum, we aim to provide every pupil with consistent opportunities to succeed. Our culture is one of high expectations, compassionate support, and shared accountability; inclusion is not the work of a single team, but of every adult in the school.

At Burhill, inclusion means belonging. It means seeing, hearing and valuing every child. It means building a community where all children—especially those facing the greatest challenges—are empowered to make strong progress, develop confidence, and experience joy in their learning.
