Burhill Primary School receives Artsmark Silver Award
We are delighted to announce that Burhill Primary School has achieved the Artsmark Silver Award for 2020. We are thrilled to be recognised as a school championing the Arts and are committed to enabling every child to explore as many areas or the Arts as possible. Dr Darren Henley OBE, Chief Executive Arts Council England states:
Being an Artsmark school demonstrates that through offering a broad, balanced and creative curriculum, young people have the opportunity to develop character and talent and increase their knowledge, curiosity and skills that will remain with them as they go through adult life.

You are clearly committed to the Arts at Burhill Primary. Music is evidently a strength of your arts offer, led by your specialist teacher - children have opportunities to take part in instrumental tuition, including violin, ukulele, recorder and steel pans; and showcase their talents in regular performances in school and at the local church.
Staff have been keen to develop their art skills through internal CPD on painting techniques and the use of sketch books which, along with your new art progression document, are ensuring pupils’ progression from EY to Y6 and are providing pupils with opportunities to reflect on and evaluate their own and each other’s work.
Pupils’ artwork is celebrated during your annual Art Week and exhibition. ‘Art Classes of Excellence’ are having tangible effects on pupils’ emotional wellbeing; and staff are currently participating in training so that they can use art therapy techniques in small group interventions to support children’s positive social emotional and mental health.
