Trips, Visits and Experiences

Educational Visits

During the year we aim to take the children on at least one visit associated with the topic being studied in class. Curriculum information is published on our website at the start of the year in order that you can plan your own linked visits should you wish to do so. We will take children to places of interest to enhance their learning, such as Hampton Court Palace, RHS Wisley, The Look Out Discovery Centre, art galleries, farms and theatre trips.

We also welcome a wide variety of educational visitors to school, including sports specialists, authors, museum curators and a number of others who are specialists in their fields. These activities form a valuable part of the children's learning and development.  We do depend on the financial support of parents to be able offer these visits, however, no child will be excluded where there is a case of genuine financial need.

Experience Days

To enhance our curriculum and provide meaningful learning opportunities, we aim to provide the children with a variety of experience days. We love seeing our children and staff dressed up as Saxons or as Ancient Egyptians, for example, participating in activities for a range of themed days.

Residential Trips

During the year, our older children are fortunate enough to attend various residential trips. These include overnight stays at venues including High Ashurst, Thames Young Mariners and camping trips. To prepare our children to stay away, our younger children all look forward to the Year 3 sleepover at school where they get to camp in school with their friends, participate in evening activities and enjoy a cooked hot breakfast in the morning.

We ask that parents support us in these exciting residential-experience element of our curriculum. No child would ever be excluded in cases of genuine financial hardship and we would endeavour to ensure that every member of the class took part in the residential trips as we believe they are such an important aspect of our provision at Burhill Primary School.

Clubs and Curriculum Environment

We have an exciting range of before, after-school & lunchtime clubs including netball, football, cheerleading, choir, cooking, forest school, languages, coding, art and many more.  The clubs are run by our teachers and are free to our pupils. We also have a number of fee-paying clubs and we work hard to ensure that all children have equality of access and opportunity in terms of this element of extra-curricular provision. Please see our School Clubs page for further information.
